Avicii wins battle against Leona Lewis (Collide)

As you may be aware Swedish producer Tim Berg also known as AVICII was in a legal battle with Leona Lewis regarding a plagiarism of the instrumental of his track “Fade into Darkness” and her upcoming album new single “Collide“. For more information please read our two articles here (by chronological order):

The legal battle was settled on Monday this week, and “Collide” will be released not only as Avicii as an author but also now as a collaboration between Avicii and singer Leona Lewis. Collide will still be released on September 4th but under a joint title which will probably look like this: “Leona Lewis & AVICII – Collide:)

This is a BIG win for the Swedish producer, his manager and the label Ministry of Sound against the super power major label SYCO (Simon Cowell) and a major mainstream artist such as Leona Lewis. There is a lot of examples in the past of mainstream artists taking music work without permission from “smaller” artists and think its okay by giving them “author credit”. But in this case the whole AVICII team went to the legal battle even refusing [lots of] money and the result is victory.

I am still amazed on how SYCO and Sony Music could have still push the release of “Collide” although AVICII had refused to give them the right to use his instrumental and also warned them of legal battle. Very unprofessional and unethical.

At the end of this battle, AVICII definetly is the winner, not only the whole legal battle has attracted the eyes of multiple media, putting his name out on the mainstream world even more and now with this shared collaboration on Collide, we can expect him to take even a bigger step up in the music world.

Oh yeah also he will be likely sharing royalties and revenue generated from the track with her so his bank account will certainly be happy as well but hey he deserves it, it’s his track after all ;)
