Exclusive Interview with Nicky Romero
It truly has been an incredible start of a year for producer Nicky Romero, with his recent release of Generation 303 as well as Wild One Two in collaboration with David Guetta and Sia. But to top it all of, Nicky has just signed up with David Guetta and here at Jadore, exclusively, we have an interview with the one and only rising star; Nicky Romero.
Jadore: Two weeks ago, it was revealed that you “signed with David Guetta”. That’s a very exciting news for you and your future career, however not much info has been given on it -> Could you let us know how you and David came to this and on what levels you will be working together?
Nicky: “David and I met last summer through some handy work on my management’s behalf. I did a couple of remixes for him and he asked me to come and play at Pacha in Ibiza. We hit it off and we decided to team up on the production side of things. A huge honour I was over the moon with this. So we have been hitting it hard in the studio and ‘Wild Ones Two’ is the first result of many to come I can promise you that.”
Jadore: What are you the most exciting about regarding this deal?
Nicky: It is an absolute dream to work with the world’s biggest dj/producer. David has an enormous amount of experience a great ear and is a great person on top of this.
Jadore: Can we still expect some original production from you or will you be only producing with him?
Nicky: Of course, I will start my own label and do loads of releases coming season, there are also some great collabs lined up so keep an eye out
Jadore: You did a few remixes for David Guetta before but you recently came out with a collaboration for “Wild One Two” – How was partnering with the French producer and working with Sia?
Nicky: It was amazing! We put a lot of effort in this track and I am very happy with the outcome! Sia’s vocal is amazing such a pleasure to be working with her and David on this.
Jadore: Are you planning on releasing many more songs in the near future with the French DJ superstar?
Nicky:Yes there are a few tracks on the shelve which I am very proud of and are amazing! Coming soon!
Jadore: Do you plan on touring with David Guetta?
Nicky: Well that is more up to David lol but yes I will be resident for his FMIF parties in Ibiza and I am playing with him on some very big shows in Paris and London
Jadore: What are the 5 tracks you always play in your set?
Nicky: I don’t really have 5 tracks that I always play, my sets consist of 70% own productions so of course there are a few that I play out often at the moment like Wild One 2, Generation 303, Toulouse, L’amour by the Bingo Players is awesome! Cosmo Klein – The Night (Nilson & The 8th Note Remix), Vida – I got The Love, Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl feat. Georgi Kay – In My Mind (Axwell Remix)
Nicky: That is a hard question, lately there are so many great gigs. If I have to pick I say EDC Vegas closing the mainstage would take the cake, it was really overwhelming!
Jadore: People say “you never forget your first” – do you remember your first gig? Could you tell us about it?
Nicky: It was in a local bar where I used to collect empty glasses and clean up I was always very interested in what the resident did and one night he let me spin for half an hour and I was sold!
Jadore: 2011 was clearly your year, where you reached a new status. Any talented rising producer you would recommend to check out?
Nicky: Yes keep an eye on my buddy Nilson and Vida!
Jadore: WMC is around the corner and this summer we heard a rumor about a residency in Ibiza – could you tell us more?
Nicky: Yeah I am going to play FMIF at Pacha this summer don’t know how many times yet, but I am over the moon with this!!
Jadore: What main project are you working on this year? (Label, production etc.)
Nicky: Starting my own label, doing a radio show, loads of collabs, lots of touring and having fun!
Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions!
It was a pleasure thanks for taking the time to interview me!
